Monday, April 9, 2007

Well this is the first day to my new recovery over the disease of obesity. What a word to hear out of your doctors mouth. Even though I don't look it in my eyes the scale don't lie. Thanks to my cousin rob I am joining the coalition of F.A.T. and going to begin my road to health and well being again.

Welcome Gary!

But please don't get me started on calling obesity a "disease"!!

Obesity is a symptom of our modern culture, and of laziness, carelessness, and sometimes weakness. Sure, some people (us!) are more genetically predisposed to it, so it takes a little more effort, but for most people, it's not a disease (There are some rare cases I'm sure, but not for most of us)...

Anyway, calling it a "disease" allows people to play the victim, and allows them to not take responsibility for their current state.

Say it with me now: "I'm obese because I eat too much, I eat unhealthy things just because they taste good, and I don't exercise because I'd rather sit around on my arse".

Yeah, me too ;) But not anymore!!! Welcome to F.A.T.!

Gary, you know I'm damn proud of you for doing this. It's not easy to just step up to the plate like you did.

As I've told you, I'm in this to win the whole thing and get down to the weight that I want to be, and as long as you're working at it, I'll be right there with you helping you get there too.

Jon and Aaron ain't going to be the skinnier ones for much longer.

Welcome aboard, Gary! If we can do it, you can too. My only advice is don't look at the big picture - how much total weight you have to lose. Take baby steps by setting and accomplishing small goals. You'll be where you want to be in no time!

Best of luck on your journey. Glad to have you along for the ride. :)

Welcome Gary, I look forward to knowing you as you go through this journey. Rob is a great encourager and you're lucky enough to know him in real life and work out with him!

Gary - I meant to work on the design of the blog today, but I didn't have any time today. I'll get to it either later tonight, or tomorrow morning. See you Thursday for the next workout session - we'll work a different set of weights then.

Welcome! I agree with Beck. It's the easiest thing and the hardest thing to focus on smaller goals. So simple to lose just 2 pounds, but it also seems so insignificant for a while - until it is all added up. We are all proof that it does come off eventually and you'll be healthier for it. Good luck!

Gary---I can't tell you how proud of you I am. I am behind you and Rob 100% and will push your butt out of bed in the morning if it means you feeling better about yourself when you look in your closet or the mirror.

I hope you know that I love you just the way you are, but want you to be happy and healthy, so here is the 1st step.

Keep up the good work and I LOVE U.....

Hi Gary!

Good job realizing that this is something that you need/want to do. Blog more often and push Rob's butt in the gym, k?
